Location

Ahangama is the place famous for the ‘stilt fishermen’.

Welengoda is the nearest best beach to Mimosa 10 mins walk, it attracts surfers, but is still quiet and peaceful. It is an excellent beach for surfers of all abilities and there are surf lessons. (Dec. – April) There are a couple of small beach front restaurants.

You can now also take yoga lessons on the beach and we can arrange private tuition.

From here as well as from Ahangama town centre there are bus stops and regular buses going north and south along the coast road.

Mimosa Villa is an antique colonial style house which has been tastefully restored and extended. It is located in the small village of Maliyagoda, surrounded by friendly and helpful local families, in the suburbs of the town Ahangama.

Sri Lanka has a split monsoon; monsoon in the SW is from May – Nov. and in NE is from Nov. – May. So by travelling between coastlines it is possible to get perfect weather all yr. round. The best weather in SW is Dec. – May. blue skies and sunshine usually every day! With temps; 23 – 33 degrees Centigrade all year round. We have the most beautiful sunsets as you can see from these images.

Although Sri Lanka is a relatively small island and places on the map look short distances please remember not to try to do too much travelling in 1day, roads are not good, traffic can be horrendous, and journeys arduous.

At the time of compiling this 1£ = 190 Sri Lankan rupees.( the rate fluctuates)

ATM’s in Sri Lanka are now widespread, Banks of course will change currency, and there are many private money changing places where the rate is usually slightly better.

Bandaranaike/Katunayake International Airport is approx. 25mls north of Colombo city centre.

Negombo is the nearest tourist beach town to the airport, 20 mins. tuk-tuk ride, and there are buses n taxis from the airport.

Negombo sea front is developed n touristy but not a bad place to acclimatise n recharge before travelling on.

The International Airport has regular buses into Colombo city centre and to Fort Railway Station. The bus journey into ‘busy’ Colombo can be tedious 2hrs + but cheap!

Traffic flow in Colombo can be horrid.

From Colombo city centre there are buses going south, but not recommended.

Fort Railway station in Colombo is where to catch a train south to Matara/Ahangama. (3-4hrs. cheap, 2nd class, and fun, try sitting on the foot plate!)

Mimosa Villa is 10mins tuk-tuk ride from Ahangama railway/bus station. Mimosa Villa is in a village environment, in a suburb of Ahangama called ‘Maliyagoda’.
